    Hi all,

Does anyone know if their is any difference between old PCGS holders (green -2nd generation, and typed print - first generation) in terms of the price difference and the new ones today? I have some coins (some valuable) in old (first and second generation) holders and I was wondering since I've heard that sometimes PCGS may upgrade the coin since they graded their coins much stricter back when the old holders were around, should I resubmit the coins? Any truth to this?

    Thanks,
    Dave

Its possible that they may upgrade however I have seen many in the old green holders that I thought were over-graded. It all comes down to the coin itself as opposed to the label.....

PCGs can and is very strict on grading today......

As far as your green holdered coins, sometimes the jump in price is staggering from one grade to the next, making it worth the submission fee's in a attempt for the upgrade... But again, it depends on the coin....

Thanks for the info and advice. I have another question...If I submitted a PCGS coin in an old green holder, would they down grade it if they thought the original grade was too high or would they return it to me in the same holder unchanged or put it in a new PCGS holder with the original grade that I submitted the coin with? Do you know the answer to this? I surely wouldn't want a valuable coin to be down graded. I could potentially lose a lot of money if I decided to sell it one day.

    Thanks for your help,
    Dave

Well to me if they downgrade it you might as well take it, as it's more than likely over graded and if you ever sell it, a dealer would only give you what he though it graded even if the slab said higher.

So what I would do is ask a dealer you know what he thinks and if he thinks it would be up graded send it in and if he doesn't think it will get up graded you might want to send it in anyway--remember to buy the coin NOT the holder as in the end it might not help at all.

When you send it in for a re-grade you can select minimum grade, in other words, say you can is a ms64, you can select a min. of a ms64 and it wont downgrade...

If you have coin that might be overgraded and you send it in to PCGs for a presidential review, and if they agree it is over graded they will compensate you for your loss and give you options, the coin in a lesser holder and some cash or more cash and they keep the coin...

Thanks again for the info. I am still undecided as to what I will do. I have some coins that I will try to post pics of soon and ask for opinions as to what you think the grade is. Some are NGC, two are PCGS, and one ANACS. They are pretty valuable and I don't want them to downgrade them. Just to let you know: I have a 1914 D Lincoln MS-64 BN in NGC, 1909 S VDB Lincoln MS 62 BN in ANACS, 1955 DDO Lincoln MS 62 BN in NGC, 1922 no D Strong Reverse XF 40 BN in NGC, a 1916-D Mercury Dime F 12 in old green PCGS holder, and finally a 1928 St. Gaudens Double Eagle MS 65 in old green PCGS holder. I would love all the non PCGS coins to be in PCGS holders and the 1916-D Mercury to be upgraded to F 15. I will try to post their pics sometime soon.
    Thanks for your help.
