Doesn't look MS to me. AU-55 maybe if it hasn't been cleaned. I can't tell by the pictures provided.

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

The obverse pictures are a bit blurry, so I'm sorta guessing here, but I like this best at EF-45. I might go up to AU-50 if better obverse pictures show more detail.

The big price jump comes when you jump from AU to Uncirculated. That coin is definitely not uncirculated.

I agree lower AU-XF. There is a good chance it was cleaned long ago as you can see a break in the luster around E.PLU and UNUM on the obverse and STATES on the reverse. There is a lot of dirt in IN GOD WE TRUST for how clean the rest of the coin is. That would be one of the hardest parts to get when cleaning.

I hope you didn't pay anywhere near the price on the 2X2.

I'd probably grade that AU-53. If you had it professionally graded, I'd say it would be worth about $100. Some people above are saying it might be XF. I think it's a bit too nice to be XF, but most definitely not nice enough to be MS.

agreed, XF45 - AU53, not higher, but likely not much lower either

Might squeak out an AU50. Too much luster gone to go higher.

Whoever put it in the 2 x 2 doesn't know what they are doing, first the BU script and then the staples are not flattened.

It could have been put in a holder by one of those dealers that grossly over gradess.

XF. There's not enough luster for AU, IMHO.

Flatten those staples so you don't accidentally scratch your coin.

This is what I did. I right clicked on the images and opened them in a new tab. I enlarged the pictures to look for any major problems and check the breast feather details and luster in protected areas. Is the black spot mint grease or corrosion? Are there any fine scratches on the face? I then went to the PCGS grading for AU coins. Comparing pictures (remember everything is suggestive and subjective) your coin looks better than the AU 50 but no higher than the AU 53. Study the objectivity of the subjective grading. Buy coins by eye appeal and not by a TPG holder or 2x2 holder. Study your grading guides and books. Enjoy coin collecting.

I didn't know until you explained the right click and then enlarge the pic.

Having collected coins for 64 years, here is my honest opinion. You did not get a good deal. Your 1886 V nickel has in my opinion a Fair 2 obverse and an ungradable reverse and stretching it a poor reverse. PCGS Retail valued at $85. Your 1897-O Morgan dollar subjectively and objectively grades AU 53 with a PCGS value of $130. In summary you traded a $130 coin plus $30= $160 for an $85 coin. Don't give up being a coin collector. We all have made mistakes. Read your grading guide books and Study books on V nickels.
