What’s a good way to hunt for nickels? Is buying rolls worth it?

Nickels are kind-of undersearched, no silver there (OK,OK, war nics) so getting rolls from the bank works pretty good. I'm sure other members will chime in.

Thanks, I will try that then get a few rolls from the bank and see what I get.

    Welcome to the neighborhood!

If you're hunting for silver, nickels are the last thing you would want to search. The only years in which silver was used in them were the war years, 1942-1945, but they only contain .05626 oz. per coin.

    >Dimes to 1964 contain .07234 oz. each
    >Quarters to 1964 contain .18084 oz. each
    >Half Dollars to 1964 contain .36169 oz. each
    >Half Dollars, 1965-1970, contain .1479 oz. each

But if you are trying to put a full date/mint set together from circulation, the Jefferson nickel is the only series where that may still be possible. OK Lincoln Memorial too now, but it is MUCH easier than the Jefferson.

Welcome to ct. ... crhing is fun. I had been looking for a war nickel for a long time. I was bound I would find one before I bought one. About $1000 in nickels I finally found one! There are still some good Jefferson’s out there. Just have to be patient.

    Good luck cry!
