Maybe its my eyes but... 1943P VF-20 $100.00 EF-40 $1.25 AU-50 $2.50 MS-60 $5.00 Who knew a very fine was worth more then a mint state nickel.
ZOMG the book has an error! that means it has value. have it slabbed by SGS, it should come back MS-70 and you can sell it on ebay for like a bazillion dollars. and i bet some idiot would buy it. thats what SGS should do next, slab books with errors.
There are many more Errors in the 2008 Redbook and most of the previous year's as well! Most publications on coins including PCGS Price Guide on their' website, has many Errors in the pricing. Frank
I found a 1943P this morning while roll hunting. My girlfriend looked up the price and said "it's worth $100".. I had to grab the book and check for myself. Just thought it was funny.
Man, I'm taking all my 43 P's and carry them in my pocket from now on, to make them VF. It has full steps? Ahh, who cares, the redbook says it is worth more in VF, so it has to be, right? Lol. BTW, Smoke Monkey, :thumb: LOL. Phoenix
Where do you guys find girls that support your coin habit? Laundramat coin machines? Office water coolers? NASCAR?
Could be true. So many people now grab coins from the Mint and put them away it is difficult to find a worn out one. That is why the 31S Lincoln Cent is so cheap for a low mintage. Now here is the thing to do. Buy up as many of those 43P Jefferson's in EF-40 and rub them until they are VF-20. Pay a few dollars and get back hundreds.:headbang: Obviously not a close watcher on these forums. Usually full of stories about all the errors in each issue. Many are simple such as Page 120, 1986 price in wrong column, page 133, 2003S proof price in wrong column. There are numerous such minor errors in almost any book, magazine, etc where there are massive amounts of documentation required to be updated each year. Remember that every page in that book must be updated each year and that is an awful lot of information to maintain perfectly. Unfortunately it is now to late to notify Whitman since the 2009 version is coming out April 8, 2008.
The error that is the subject of this thread is simply a typo. The 2008 Red Book contains a much bigger error. On page 223 they list prices for silver proof Presidential dollars. The Red Book was printed in anticipation of there being silver Prez dollars being minted. It turned out the silver Prez dollars were not authorized so none were minted.
If you have one of the better grades, use it as a good-luck pocket piece for while ! Just make sure you can accurately grade it when it gets down to VF-20... the F-15s are only worth $0.95.
