I just want to get an idea of some rare coins that people have. So I am starting a topic, anyone, please post the rarest coin you currently own. Thanks (Mine is a 1932 S quarter)
I have a NGC slabbed MS64 1942 proof cent. 32,600 minted yet there seems to be plenty on the market for purchase, or at least there was the last time I looked. I also have a MS64-65 Bugs Bunny Franklin that I wouldn't take $100.00 for. I don't know how rare they are but I cherish mine. Keep On Collecting!!! Allen
Lets see I think the ones with the fewest minted are the 1879, 1879/8, 1880 and 1881 shield nickels that I have. Some of my early large cents are rare as far as I am concerned. I also consider my 4 coin smithsonian set rare and yet I do not really consider some of my IHC's rare since there are plenty available.
I have a few nice ones. But one of my favs I own is a VF 1799 silver Dollar. My 2nd fav are a pair of 1896S $20 MS63 64 Libs all of those I know are not to rare. As for my fav Rare that I own, I have to think about that one a bit.
My rarest coin is an 1882 Proof Seated Liberty Half Dollar. Mintage 1,100. My coin is graded NGC PF 65 Ultra Cameo. I don't have an NGC population report but PCGS reports a population of 2 in Proof 65 Deep Cameo and only 3 higher (Proof 66 Deep Cameo). This is the coin that I placed an offer on at Heritage but a glitch caused my offer to not be recorded. Thanks to fellow CTer Chris (aka The Cave Troll) my offer was accepted and I took receipt of the coin just a few days ago. I will post pics of this super nice coin once I perfect my coin photography skills. (Just so you know, I am taking the Digital Coin Photography course at the ANA Summer Seminar this year.)
That depends on your definition of rare: Lowest mintage - 1922 Plain Lincoln (only the weak reverse, dang it) Fewest in condition - Probably 1950-S Lincoln MS-67 or 1929-D MS65-RD Most valuable - 1929-D MS65-RD or 1914-S MS64 BR (if it makes it)
