Hey all - pics will follow, but I found a $5 1963 A starnote, and I noticed that the site I use to see how many star notes came out in a given series doesn't go back to 1963. I use http://www.mycurrencycollection.com/reference/stars/ - does anyone know of another one? Thanks!
I have tried - http://www.uspapermoney.info/serials/. Click on $5 it lists 1963A, but I did not try to interpret it.
Give us a full serial number and those pics would be nice. These sites are great, to an extent. then one has to actually consult a book. I don't mean to sound rude but does everyone look up all of their coins on the internet? Nope, most buy books. Lots of books. clembo
For the series 1963A Stars were issued for every FRB...go buy the book by Schwartz/Lindquist 8th edition Small Size US Paper Money and get all the info.... The pic will tell us alot of information.... Good luck..and post that pic.. RickieB
Here's a scan of the front. I have books on both coins and paper money and I read a lot about them but in a pinch, when you want to know one or two quick facts, the internet's extremely useful. I'm sure you wouldn't deny that.
Wouldn't deny that at all but am glad to hear that you have the books. Your note lists at $30 in CU pretty large printing of over 7 million. Still a keeper and RickieB will love it. New York note you know. clembo
Thanks everyone! I just started pulling star notes out of circulation for novelty purposes (just to see how many I could accumulate). I'm also checking for radars but I haven't found any yet.
wrucmike, when i started pulling stars and such, i would go to the banks 3 or more time a week over my lunch at work. I would buy $200 in 1's. When i started doing this, i had maybe 2 or 3 modern stars. Since then i have found 1 to 2 hundred. I average 1% - which is alot higher then the star to non star ratio in printing of about .6-.8%. I usually find 2 stars, sometimes i find 3 or 4, sometimes i find 1 or none- each time i visit the banks. I have gond through litteraly about $30,000 since i started. I have, however, only found the 1 full radar, and several 1 digit off radars everything is fair game out in the market - everything CAN be found if you look! Good luck, and let us know what you find!
Mike.. Clembo is right.. I do love the fact it is a NY star..LOL.. But I must say that I am so dang picky that I would have to turn that one back to big Ocean of folks in the Big Blue World...just has to much accordian going on it for me...but if you like it, by all means keep that star!!! Regards, RickieB
Hey RickieB - I love crisp notes (like the $500 and $20 that I also posted), but I couldn't beat the price (face) But I agree that if it was crisp, it would be that much better. Thanks for the input!
nice find!:thumb: its hard to find those old style bills as it is, but finding a old syle star is awsome! in that condition i think the value would be around $10-$11.
