I went in on the two-coin Apollo set (reverse-proof Kennedy and concave Apollo commem). The packaging is folding glossy cardboard, with the coins in capsules, which are in turn encased between a flat layer of plastic and a plastic bubble, both sort of laminated into the cardboard. I can't see an obvious way to get either coin out of the packaging without destroying the plastic layer, the cardboard, or both. I'm not attached to the packaging, but I recognize that other collectors may be, so I'm a bit reluctant to tear it up. Am I missing a simple trick to get the coins loose?
I been watching this thread for my own interest. I purchased all the single coins but have been thinking I may go back and order this one..... I saw photo's of this mint issued packaging. Surely it doesn't obscure the reverse of the coins does it?
The sets are on backorder per the web-site. I believe they sold out. not sure if these are sold out or they stopped offering them until they can correct the information on the specifications ,which notes gilroy as designing both sides (of the kennedy},and not crediting gasparro for one they intend to send future orders with proper card and offer replacement for those who ask ,i think.
@jeffB No twisting needed. Stick your lil ol finger in that hole that exposes the reverse and give it a push. Capsule will pop right out!
So, on a closer look, the plastic of the packaging forms a "cup" to hold the coin capsule, with a cutout to get a finger in. Removing the capsules from this packaging was actually easier than removing the others from their felt-lined presentation boxes.
