Cash vs. Collection vs Eternity

Cash or Collection, separating the dealers/sellers from the collectors forever. Chances are YOU don't have a coin/note (or notes/coins) in your collection which you'd part with for face value or even double face value for that matter. But..., do you have a piece which you'd never part with for (let's say any) any amount of money for any reason whatsoever?

With that being said, I would REALLY not want to part with my three '16 D Mercs that I "found" in the stash of silver coins my Grandad buried in 1939!

 

I agree, except for the wife & kids part.

An 1866 Two Cent Piece that my dad bought for me. A VG coin that he paid $3.75 for.

Still in the original 2x2 after at least 35 years and will remain there. This coin got me to decide to do the set after he had passed away. It's the only set I've ever completed.

I plan on this coin being buried with me when that time comes. There's the Eternity part.

 

Clembo, that's the exact response I was hoping some of us would reply with, well done. :thumb: As for me, there are several (coins) items which I plan on passing down, but the only item (s) I'd take to the grave are a small wooden boat he carved for me when I was small and a (thrown with string) top his dad (Grandpa) made for him as well.

So far, the only numismatic item I've purposefully relegated to eternity was an 1878-S Morgan I slipped into a friends coffin when I was a boy...

i respect that a lot.

 

I dont have anything that is worth so much, or that means so much that i want to be burried with it. everything i have i got for myself. So there are no 'special' memories to go with anything - so most everythiing i have will either passed down to my offspring or sold after my death.

 

You'll provide memories for your offspring Daggarjon. That's cool too.

 

I'll be keeping the 1922 Peace dollar my grandfather gave me on the day I was born.

 

The only thing that comes close is the 82-ddr that my avatar is taken from. With a current population of only 2 it is the only coin in my colection that I could not replace if I needed to. I would never bury something like that with me. I won't enjoy it and someone else should. My kids can either enjoy it or take the money and run.

I have several hundred coins my grandparents gave to me that I'll never part with. They're the ones who first got me interested in coins 30+ years ago and it's a little piece of them I have that I'll keep forever.

The four cull large cents that I was given by my grandfather, that started my collecting. Two are so beat up you can't read the date, but from the faint images on the obv and rev you can tell what type they are and an 1835 and 1852 that are both holed that my dad pried off the doorposts of barns long gone when he was a kid. I still wear the 52 on my chain.

I will never part with the 1900-O Morgan PCGS MS65 my dad gave me for my 21st birthday years ago. I'm not too hot on slabbed stuff, but it's what really got me fired up about restarting a new collection. I have one hell of a collection now. Everything else is negotiable. Speaking of which, I have a few pieces I am thinking of selling as soon as I can find a scanner or nice enough camera.

 

I have 2 coins that I don't think I would ever get rid of...neither of which have much monetary value anyway, so I don't imagine anyone would offer me much for them anyway.

The first is a dateless buffalo nickel that I found in my grandparents driveway, which is what got me started collecting when I was young and the second is a 1925 Merc. Dime given to me by my mother.

 

I would never think of sellign any coins I have...no great little story here, nobody in my family collects anything so most of my coins are either bought by me or given to me as a gift from a person who didnt care what it was....

I do wear an Ethiopian coin that has meaning to me...simply because of where and how I got it.

 

I don't intend to ever sell or give away the morgan dollars that passed from my grandfather to my father to me. I can't say I'd never sell them for any price [for example, a billion dollars or to save the life of a family member], but they will be the last coins I ever part with, not the first.

 

I have no intentions of parting with any of my collection. Everything I own will be going to my boys and my granddaughters...except maybe I'll have them put a Silver Eagle in the urn with my ashes. That will be easy. The hard part will be getting my motorcycle in there with me...:goof:

 

Every note that I have will be passed down to my son! The Gold, Silver and Plat coins will be sold at a set profit point and invested in a 529 for his college one day.
I will never sell the 2002 Birth Year Sets in Gold Silver and Platinum for him..these I hope will go over to his son and so on and so on...

probably my 1864 IHC - its not the greatest of coins, but it was the first one I ever got.
Unless someone offered me a ridiculous amount of money - but for typical value, heck no!

 

Every coin that I own will be passed down to my kids, well, the ones that I know of anyway...hehe. I do have 3 coins from France that my Dads Uncle brought back when he was in Europe during WW1. I absolutely will not part with those at any price.
