I am new to this site and am wondering what you think of the coins that are sold on coin vault on shop at hometv.com. Are they reasonably priced and worth buying from and trust worthy in general. thanks Gene
NO! Absolutely not. If they tell me it's sunny out, I'll take my umbrella thank you. BTW welcome aboard Gene.
Hello Gene, Welcome to the forum and SOOOOO glad you asked. Don't waste your money. PLEASE! I watch these shows occasionally. Some of the best comedy to be found on TV and you will find that most others here will agree with that sentiment. If you're new to the hobby start educating yourself and CoinTalk is a great place to start. A local coin shop (if available) is a great place to start. That and shows. TV coins have a ton of overhead to pay for. The prices are generally way too high and the misinformation factor is as well. Keep learning and asking questions before you go spending your hard earned cash. clembo
Hi Gene, welcome to the forum. I agree with what hontonai and clembo said. Don't wast your time or money on shop at home. Lou
welcome, and i echo the 1st 2 comments WHOLE HEARTEDLY! those shows are only out to sell over price coins to the unknowing! stay clear!
from what I understand shop at home will no longer be on the tube after the 1st part of next month. I would be willing to bet old chambers will pop up somewhere.
ShopatHome will be just selling on the web. No more TV after March 8. They will be broadcasting solely on the web. Chambers will probably still be on there, as they will still be selling coins.
There was just an article in CW about the TV guys buying up all the 21 Morgans, the red headed stepchild of silver dollars, usually trading for bullion.....Then reselling on TV as rare valuable treasures of a bygone era
Actually, they are discontinuing their TV broadcasts and becoming an internet-only retailer. No more shows - even on the web. It's a shame, really because I would sit and watch the Coin Vault for hours solely for the entertainment's sake of it. My thing was to try to pick up where exactly they departed from reality in what they said when they were "pitching the product". The fact is, that Shop-At-Home never sold anything for anywhere close to a reasonable price simply because they had to pay for the tv time, talent, etc. (LOL I just called Shawn Leflar talent... roflmao) I will however, miss seeing the newest coins first there. They always had the newest statehood quarters just into January, and this year the new design on the SAE. I also think that they, as well as other mass sellers, have driven the value of products like modern Mint Sets and Proof Sets simply by putting a demand on these items. I sincerely hope that these values (i.e.- 2004 Mint Set and 2004 Clad Proof set) don't crash because of their demise. I for one, will miss them, but would NEVER EVER recommend ANYONE buy ANYTHING from them.
RUN FOR YOU WALLET and HIDE IT. lol stay away from SHOP AT HOME. If you like to buy from there. I have a nice pocket of lint for sale. Only 900 bucks its all yours.
I have never purchased anything from them, nor would I. Although, I must admit, I do like to watch the show to see the new coin products. I like to compare their prices to the prices in the coin magazines. I also entered their coin give away contest. BTW, How do they get stuff from the mint before anyone else?
i am actually watching it right now. it is some really good comedy. they make it out to be such a great deal, but when you work out the math, its so far off of where it should be. you know you arent going to get any key dates unless they sell them to you individually, but at that point they are already over priced by at least %30. stay away!!!! greg :thumb:
