I found this in my change the other day. I don't look for errors or anything like that, but this difference was noticeable and it jumped out at me. Here I'm posting the coin in question, 2000 dime, and a normal dime for comparison. See how the left side is out of balance compared with the right side? What is this? Any value?
@Hiddendragon If it was the result of a misaligned die, wouldn't just one side be affected? I can clearly see that both sides are offset the same amount. Wouldn't this be considered an off-center strike? Chris
Since both sides are affected, wouldn't that make it an off center strike? Even if it is, none of the lettering is affected. It's very minimal and so would be any added value to the coin.
Great minds think alike... wrong this time, but alike. Now I'll have to find some useless knowledge to replace what I just learnt.
The key is whether or not the reeding is present on the edge of the coin. If it is there then you have a misaligned die strike with both dies off in the same direction. If the reeding is NOT present then you have a slightly uncentered broadstrike. You do not have an off-center strike because to be an off-center part of the design needs to be off the edge of the coin. 49 posts to go.
