I just got this in the mail today. Anyone want to venture a grade? It has not been professionally graded - yet, but the seller has "professional" opinion. It was sold as a 64 RED and returned because the buyer said it was 63 RB. The buyer supposedly works for NCG. I got it for $229, so I do not think I did poorly regardless. BTW, the mark by the "N" in "ONE" is only visible with a lot of turning to the correct angle. Apparently I caught it in the picture.
I think you did good. And I dont see much for brown besides a tiny bit on the bottom of the reverse. I dont see why that wouldnt make red. Anyhow, you did good and the price sounds fair. The guy that returned it paid $260. He didnt say anything to me about being a grader for NGC, but the only slabbed coin he has listed is in a PCGS holder. I think you did good. Oh and I bought that set. Ill post a pic of that 11S when I get it.
That area is actually the same color as the rest of the back. It is just the lighting that makes taht appear dark.
Unless the lighting altered the coins true color it sure looks red to me. I'd say MS 63Rd or 64 Rd. Nice coin. Bruce
The lighting is the same as I have been using. The reverse is definitely full red. Th e observe is kind of like a hologram. At some angles it looks bright red and at other angles it appears to be a dark red. IMHO, The only area that I think ever resembles anything like brown is the area around and just in front of the ear. Even that I would think would still be called red.
Looks Good...that the one you emailed me about ? It looks pretty close to the full PCGS 64RD in my store at near triple the price....you did well I think, it is just a bit soft, as most 31-S's are
Is that a fingerprint starting to rear it's unwated head above the 1931?? Nice coin...hope it is not what I think it is.. RickieB
I was thinking the same thing, Rickie. I'll have a shot at one of these, this coming weekend. I hope it is as nice as yours , rlm.
