    "Keith is what ebay is all about. The trailer or hitch didn't come off once. A++"

    I guess he caters to buyers with low expectations.

    He should have started the bidding at $1.00. Doubt this dumb crook will get any bids.

    I don't post very much here....

    And, I'm new to the site...

    But I have a question.

    I understand the fact that if someone sees an obviously fake coin, it is worth it to report it to ebay, and have the auction taken down. I mean, I sure as hell would be ****ed if I missed some glaring red flag, and purchased a fake coin.

    But!!

    In this case, I do not understand what everyone is reporting. Are we here to protect people from thier own stupidity?? If someone has the money, and decides to purchase a locked box full of supposed coins.....isnt that thier own choice?? If the seller of the mentioned Item wished to charge $10,000,000 for it, and someone paid for it, then what is the problem??

    How about that grilled cheese sandwich that was sold on ebay a while back......the one with the picture of the virgin mary on it. Didnt it sell for some astronomical amount of money, like tens of thousands...if not hundreds of thousands?? Would everyone here have reported it? I own a Diner. I sell grilled cheese for $3.10. Obviously the one that was listed on ebay was not worth the price it brought. But someone paid for it. Someone is happy with thier purchase. Should we have all reported taht grilled cheese because it was overpriced, and probably would have been inedible by the time it was shipped to its new owner??

    I know that I am comparing totally different things, but the premise is still the same.

    If I can list a 2007 quarter on ebay for $1,000,000 and someone pays me for it.....what is the crime?? Given the fact that I did not misrepresent the quarter.....why should anyone have the right to deny me the chance to make the sale.

    I see nothing wrong with the above auction. Yes, no one in thier right mind would buy a locked metal box full of coins that one cannot see for a quarter of a million dollars......BUT, if someone did....who are we to tell ebay to take it down??

    What is it that we are policing??

    Just thinking out loud:cool:

    Actually, I had the same thoughts while I was reading through this thread. Just because we all "suspect" this is a scam and we "suspect" all the items listed are not really in those cases doesn't mean they are not there. There is really nothing to report. If I were a bazillionaire I would probably call this guy and make some kind of arrangement to travel to him and look at the contents of those boxes before buying them, but I certainly would not place a bid on this auction the way it stands. I doubt the contents are worth what he claims because he hasn't gone through it all, so how would he know. There are crazy people out there, but who knows; someone might actually buy that and find out the contents really are worth as much as he claims.

    Along with everything else his math is waaaaaaaaay off.

    48" = 4'
    38" = 3.167"
    29" = 2.417"

    4 x 3.167 x 2.417 = 30.62 cu ft., which is 21+% shy of 39 cu ft.

    Good points and made many times in the past.

    What are we policing? Blatant fraud leaps to mind
    I highly doubt this lot will get a bid, and yes buyer beware but do you think this really helps the hobby of Numismatics if it did get a bid?

    Look at it from this angle if you would. We here on CoinTalk are collectors from many different parts of he world. We love and appreciate our coins. I believe we are all basically honest and treat one another with respect. Yes, we actually care.

    We're all basically looking to buy coins and, in many cases, sell coins but in an honest manner. We enjoy and respect the hobby that has been around the longest as far as I can tell. So, do we want to see the hobby tainted? Come on a no brainer there.

    It's been tainted enough already by TV, Morgan Mints etc. Ebay was once a place where you basically saw people selling legitimate goods. Now it's a huge industry rife with scammers. They have taken a lot of heat for this recently.

    Yes, I know it's a business and businesses need to make money to keep going but to what extent? Shall we allow this to just go on and aid in the demise of our hobby?

    Are you one of these sellers? Would you be one of these sellers? Yeah, make a few bucks and destroy a hobby.

    Not saying you are but does any of this make sense to you? If not it's a damn shame.
