I ordered an Apollo 11 uncirculated silver half dollar only because I wanted it, not because I care about whether it will ever be worth anything. After all, by simply buying it I've already grossly overpaid for a fancy ounce of silver. I would never pay the price that they are asking for the gold. With only a few exceptions, modern commemeratives have tended to lose value, so I never approach such purchases as any sort of investment or value proposition. The mint will very likely make enough for everyone who wants one, so demand will likely remain low, especially given the sales figures posted so far. I had no problem whatsoever buying the uncirculated silver half sometime after the release date. I'm also not sure how much the general public cares about the moon landings at this point. Space is no longer cool in the mainstream, sadly. I hope they care, because it was an amazing thing to have done. But when I was listening to an interview on the CBC a few weeks back about the Chinese lunar lander, I was shocked when the interviewer, a supposedly educated journalist, asked "how many countries have landed on the moon?" The interviewee managed to suppress his shock. I think I violently spit out my drink Laurel and Hardy style. Also, the movie "First Man," which I enjoyed, appears to have done poorly at the box office. Perhaps as the actual date approaches the hype will pick up, but so far the moon landing anniversary seems to have met with an indifferent thud.
There are too many people today who act like an event had no importance because it didn’t happen in their lifetimes. A product, I suppose, of PC indoctrination in schools in lieu of history lessons.
For at least some of us, we would like a more fitting product for such an event. Plenty of coins are being made for this even all over the earth, so if the only motivation is the event then the best done ones should be the answer. Frustration on the product is having more impact than not respecting the accomplishment
Wow, it's on right now. They're pricing it like it sold out. Some nice pics of it out of the capsule and he's touching it all over.
The $5 gold graded PF70 by ANACS also can be had for only $899.95! Kiddies, can you say the magic phrase? Red Oak Presentation Box!!
I see this phenomenon myself with the young folks in my office. Far to easy to dismiss history that didn’t affect them.... Or their internet connection.
Eleven days and still nothing is sold out. Unfortunately, I'm sorry to say, apparently not a hot item. I have to wonder if the reason is because many if not most of the people alive today don't remember it, or is it the designs? 64 posts to go
Not 11 days, it hasn't even been a week. That said it has an overpriced recycled design across all products with mintages that were much to high as usual.
I'm from the future? Have no idea why I thought there was another week in there. Possibly because after all the talk the topic disappeared and I thought it had been longer. OK four days, but all the other comments still hold. 60 posts to go
