The top of the S in states is filled in, from reading a few other post I would GUESS it’s a cud, but since I’m a rookie at this, I’m GUESSING
not a cud. cuds always start from rim and progress into fields, all i see in the pic is some glare...
Not a variety, just an common error of being struck with a damaged die. No value added, this is a very common occurrence with cents from the 50's and 60's. It does make for a conversation piece, and a learning/reference coin. Some collectors do save these. They can bring a premium if the coin has multiple chips. I have a 1960 LMC with two on each side. still not worth much but its cool.

Die chips and breaks are really common because the dies must strike tens of thousands of coins under many tons of pressure. Some of the CA, GA and UT State Quarters that I got from the Mint in bags had as many as 5-6 breaks and/or cracks on many of the coins. Of course, if a die was nearing the point of shattering, the coin(s) struck just before the failure could possibly bring substantial premiums. I've (only) seen pictures of coins with as much as half of the details missing from die failure. Chris
It's very, very rare that a major variety is discovered from circulation. Yes, it does happen, but not that often. @Coinstruck89 Here is a 2001-D Kennedy 50c missing the clad layer on the reverse. I found it in a $100 Mixed P&D Mint bag. There are only two known to exist. Here is a 2005-S Kansas Silver Proof SQ PF70UCAM that I found in a set that I bought from the Mint. To my knowledge, there are only 12 known to exist. It was originally attributed as a Mint Error, but when it was added to the Cherrypickers Guide in 2012, I had NGC reholder it for the variety, "FS-901, Die Dent". That made it a Top Pop with no others, and within two months, I sold it for $1K.
