Hi i have a 1991 penny but only the 199 is rasied and you can not see the other 1 there is a small mark like a 1 on it but it is not rasied is it worth any thing or has any one even herd of it
Most likely a "filled die" error. Grease, metal, cloth, fingers, etc. sometimes come between the blank planchet and the die and the entire design is not stamped. I have a couple messed up State Quarters missing letters, numbers and design details. Yours is worth at least one cent.
Here is a link to some completed filled die cent auctions. http://search-completed.ebay.com/fi...sacatZ11116QQsadisZ200QQsbrftogZ1QQsofocusZso
I have a 1991 D penny that is missing most of the letters es and o of the phrase " united statES Of america" is this a mint error and how much would this be worth? I think it is a mint error because the rest of the penny has good contrast on the imprint and it is only faded in this one spot... ...i'm trying to attach a pic but i can't figure it out. (Need help with that too..lol! I'm a mess)
Hi and welcome to CoinTalk. It is always better to start a new thread. If you look at dates of the original post it is from 2005. Those members are long gone. Ask someone to help you with the pictures. It's really easy. Ask any teenager they are experts with cellphones!
First, welcome to the neighborhood, Jessica! As Mr. P. said, you should really start your own thread. With that said, it sounds like your coin was struck with a grease-filled die. Grease and debris filled the recessed letters on the die which was compacted with every coin made. Eventually, the letters seem to disappear. This is very common, and it does not add a premium to face value. ~ Chris
