Does anyone know if this will react?

    As a painer I doubt it really matters all that much unless you plan on placing raw coins directly on painted surfaces.

    On the other hand why don't you look into a real safe?

    the price comparison

    the area you get is a lot smaller than the cabinet for the same price and anyways, i definitely need a lot more room than even a good sized safe can provide

    Security and fireproof comparison. You can store a lot in paper boxes that can be easily toted away or burned to a crisp along with your coins.

    Protect your investment by investing a bit more. Even a small safe for the better stuff at least.

    those small safes only last 30 mins in a fire

    but I know what you are saying about protection....
    if my walkers were ever stolen or ruined I would forever give up on collecting

    speaking of them, I really should finish the set, I am sooooo close....

    Real good point. A good, old fashioned lock smith is the answer. They get access to good, used safes and will sell them cheap.

    Look hard enough and I'd bet you could find a nice, used safe for the same amount you'd pay for a "cabinet".

    Who cares what it looks like as long as it does the job.
