Great addition! Are you doing a year run of $2.50 Indians? Full set? Beauty! I'm so used to seeing Philly $2.50 libs since that's all they made from 1880 on cool seeing that little S fit in there your eye gets drawn there in a good way
I’ve got a full set other than the 1911-D. That one will require some serious thought and some very serious capital before I decide on whether to buy it.
The nice thing is there is a 1911 plain for the series so even without the 1911-D you have a full date set! If 1911 only had the 1911-D it would be a lot more painful to avoid. Personally, like most 20th century key dates, I think the 1911-D is about the most overpriced coin in the history of the hobby. That's just my opinion nobody shoot me
Some really cool stuff on this thread. I have a few pieces, mostly European and all worth close to melt. Just snapped a few quick photos.
I used to own that coin!! Did you get it from me or someone else? I don't remember who I sold it to, lol.
@jwitten, I bought it off eBay from David Kahn. I have it in hand and it's quite nice. Not at all what you would expect from a 62. Why did you sell it? I'm thinking of re-holdering it. I'm thinking this generation NGC holder is causing the toning and I'd like it to stop at it's current level.
I bought it and sold it on ebay... not sure if David Kahn bought it from me or if they got it down the road somehow. You want to STOP the toning?? That was why I bought it in the first place! lol. I doubt the holder is causing it. It takes a lot to tone gold, and I don't think any holders would do it. It WOULD look better in a new holder though.
Don't get me wrong, I like toned gold, but I don't want it to go too far. I like this one just the way it is. I know those old NGC holders toned silver coins, so I'm thinking there's some chemical in the plastic insert that reacts with the coins.
