Liberty Joins the Preamble to the Declaration of Independence Series

    MINTAGE LIMIT: 15,000 [IMG]
The second release in the United States Mint’s three-coin Preamble to the Declaration of Independence series is available January 31. Titled Liberty, the platinum coin represents the deeply-rooted American freedom to explore new ideas and to choose the life one desires. Rendered in 99.95 percent platinum, these breathtaking coins add a high note to any collection.

OK ... it's the second in a series. But it's just coming out. I was just interested if anyone is playing this series and is buying into this collection of three(3) coins.

I got that email today. Showed the rendition of Lady Liberty to my wife. She commented that Lady Liberty looked like a child’s picture to her. I am still stunned that this design adorns a US mint released coin. I know taste is subjective. But this is just a hideous rendition to me. I’ll not be buying these.

I think the objective is to go in the direction as this coin; sort of with the "all inclusive" PC attitude.

The eagle on the reverse looks pretty cool. I'm not into platinum or palladium bullion pieces, so I'll be passing on this opportunity.

I did purchase the 4 coin silver medal set last year.

The 50% premium over melt is gonna be a turn off for most people.

Did you ever notice that in a liquor store they have a whole bunch of bottles of red wine ... all at different prices?!? Someone that wants to collect cool things doesn't always care so much about the "premium over melt". Everyone doesn't chose and buy their car for resale value in 2-years. There are different types of people interested in coins. Collectors ... Investors ... Flippers ... et al.

    I'm not sayin' ... I'm just sayin'.

The platinums generally have some of the best designs the mint has done, I would not consider these to be among them. I was excited by the initial idea, and as usual disjointed by the actual product.

I wonder what happened to the amazing designs of yore... It seems that most modern issues pale in comparison to some of the more classical US designs.

And yet, I consider these new Liberty designs a bright spot in the otherwise disappointing offers from the Mint. Different tastes, people.

I like the Liberty series, but I've only bought one platinum coin from the Mint, and that one's saddled me with several hundred dollars of regret. I'm not willing to spend hundreds of dollars in premium to get a design I like. Tens of dollars, maybe, but not hundreds.

LOL. ... The first time I heard this quote, from a guy that I now can't stand and actually hope he gets hit by a bus, really fits these kinds of situations ...

    "That's why restaurants have menus.".

Lately all the US Mint designs with Liberty depict Liberty as a weakling. Just look at that poor thing. So sad. Give me a strong Liberty, onevthat when you look at her you know she knows the cost and meaning of freedom.

She's thin and frail looking. Looks as if she can't hold the torch up another minute. Please don't tell me you can't see the difference between the older and modern Liberty designs.
