I think the second coin from the left is the most problem free of the group. I looks like it has wear and maybe a weak strike, but not any significant dings or environmental damage. IMHO.

The real question in my mind is "Which coin do you like best and why?"

The far left is out. The other three are about the same for the most part but so agree with Lawtoad.

    Lamination on coin #3?

Do you HAVE to place one of these in your main collection?

I'd be tempted to just get another 18s in EF than to use one of these, but the second from the left, if that grade works for you, is the one I'd pick if I had to.

Are you shooting for an "average grade" for your Lincoln Cents or overall collection?

Can you explain "backup collection"? I've never heard that term before.

I do not know the OP's definition, but I actually have second collections (albums) that I keep with the coins I move from my albums when I upgrade a coin, or acquire a duplicate. Good for trading or sometimes as gifts.

I'm just getting started and I thought my grandfather-in-law collection was pretty nice. It is a nice collection, meaning most people would love to have a few of the pennies in the collection. But as you see, some need upgrading. But to do that I need to inventory them. I got a new album and am transfering from old to new and keeping a second penny as "backup" in the old, in case I screw up grading, evaluating, or spots show up on the first. I would like to sell all my wheats after that (that i don't save) and buy say a " another 18s in EF than to use one of these" But until then.....

So is lamination error worth keeping? I think it is a ugly coin.

My goal to finish the Lincoln series and then start getting better grades for the weak ones. (also work on Eagles and Indians but there is a few I would never be to afford.)

Anyone want a lot of wheats after I'm done :)

    Thanks everyone for your help.

Yes the lamination is worth keeping but I wouldn't put it in an album. Keep it separate, like in an airtight holder.

Ah, I see. I don't have a formal sounding name for that part of my horde. I just call 'em coins I need to get rid of.
