Hi, I have been hanging around this site for a little while and finally decided to post. I am just getting back into collecting and think that you guys have a lot of usefull info. I am not sure what I want to focus on collecting.

I found this coin with a metal detector in my parents yard 20 years ago.

You should collect what you like. If you don't know what you like I would suggest that you buy a Red Book and read through it for some ideas. Also, go to a coin show and look at what the dealers are selling. Same goes for your local coin dealers. Once you narrow down your area of interest learn what you can about that coin series (i.e., buy a book).

    Hope that helps.

Nice find! As Hobo said collect what you like. There's allot of interesting coins out there to collect. Read some books. As for your half Balboa it was minted here in the USA at the Philadelphia mint. The Panamanian coins don't carry the US mint marks. There where 450,000 of the half Balboa's minted.

Except for the rim dings at 8:45 it's in Fine-VF condition (for being found buried). One of the first Medio Balboas minted AND it's Silver. Panama's coins are a nice collection to collection.

You could try a type set in silver, a type set of all denominations, a set of Centesimos coins, a set of fractional Balboas (1/10, 1/4, 1/2), a set of Balboas, 2 balboas, 5 balboas, a set of 10 Balboas or a set of 20 Balboas coins.

You can collect only coins that circulated in any grouping or denomination.

You can collect only Proof coins in any category.
