So Ive been coin roll hunting and want to sell the 40% ers Ive been finding to finance other coins I want and or 90%ers. I dont have many LCS near by and am not getting pricing that Im happy with. What SHOULD I expect to get on these? Melt is at I believe $2.21 today. Im getting offers of $1.50. .is this rigjt? Any help would be great. Thanks!!!
2.32 for melt right now http://www.coinflation.com/silver_coin_values.html But people typically pay a lot less than spot for 40%. Harder to refine. I've only found 1 shop around me that's closer to spot. And I still think ebay is better, even with the fees.
I sell at local shows; offers are better there because of competition. At an individual store, $1.50 is low, but not out of line. I've had offers as low as 2x FV when melt was over 4x. A lot of people just don't want to deal with 40%, because of bulk, lack of demand, and the resulting discounts from melt when selling. At the last show (last weekend), I think melt for 40% halves was around $2.25, and the best offer I got was $1.90. I chose to sell the $5 FV I had at that price. I could've gotten more on eBay, but after fees and shipping, I would've come out behind.
If you're going to turn right around and sell them, it sounds like you're coin roll hunting for profit? Or no? If you're coin roll hunting to make money it would be an absolute waste of time. If it's just for fun, cool. But you should expect no more than $2 per 40% half.
Fist off, thanks for the replies.. Second, sorry for the bad grammar in the title. I was rushing but that stuff REALLY bugs me when I do it. Third, I got my 11 year old nephew into coin collecting and he's really getting excited about it. My interest in selling the 40%ers is to reinvest in 90%ers and or other coins for our collection. I am not roll hunting with the idea of making money. I am a guy thats collected coins off and on since I was a kid and im in my 40s now. Im so happy to share this hobby and the lessons it has to teach with my nephew, but the fact is, coins cost money. Especially the really cool ones!!! Thanks again for the input guys!!!!
I don't roll hunt to make money either, but I do sell the 40% and keep the 90%. So finding the best price on 40% makes sense.
