No year wheat cent with mysterious X

This is a no year wheat cent with a precise X marked across the obverse which I'm wondering if the mint use to mark an X on defective coins ?

Just a well-circulated damaged (post mint) “wheatie”.

 

looks like someone took a knife to it to make an x on it

 

Interesting.. Date probably struck through grease.. X is intentional graffiti damage.
