As messed up as the design process is, they aren't clueless for what will and won't sell. They barely sold half the mintage and it's on backorder, they were expecting low sales.

That or they have the coins and they screwed up acquiring the packaging, like has happened in the past.

Yeah, the trend appears to be dwindling sales across many overpriced products. On the other hand, CW predicted a 24 hr sell out for the 5oz. Part of the incompetence is the inability to set a price that maximizes their profit, at some point higher prices will decrease profit due to declining sales.

  5. Makes sence. Or nosence for the mint. I think they are lifting the one per house hold soon so why not be ready. It's realy dumb.

CW was probably trying to hype something so they could write about it more, their market predictions are iffy at best. Always easy to predict sellouts when you don't have to put up any money.

As soon as the price came out you could almost feel the excitement get sucked out of it. The 50 dollar surcharge was absurd to start with and then to get well over $200 for a design on 7 other products so far with a 100k mintage. People were basically hoping that the big boys stepped in a bought a ton of them. I had never been so unsure about a sellout of something before, but I did know that for one to happen the big boys had to be aggressive on it which they weren't. It's even worse if the big boys did buy like 20-30k and that's all that sold.

That;s the nail on the head, price gets to high and sales diminish which is exactly what happened here.

Household limits have nothing to do with it, they have never once stopped the big boys from loading up if they wanted a product

  8. You dont think the 1 per house hold had anything to do with it ?

  9. You are right. I've seen that before

Yep, I didn't speculate on this one, just bought one of each for my collection and a few extra silver dollars to sell at the shop - because of the subject matter, I want some in the case.

Not a chance. If people really wanted it all that would happen is the 1 per HH limit would have just slowed down the website more and caused the aftermarket products to cost more. Household limits have never prevented a first day sell out ever

Seeing the first day sales I lost all interest. I would have canceled my order if it hadnt shipped already. I'll try and sell them fast I guess since I have a hard time not seeing this being cheaper a year from now which such bad sales. The numbers were to high for a new key date or low mintage, but to low for actual excitement.

About the only thing that will save some of these is legitimate astronaut signature labels

I am surprised that the subject matter didn't did create more sales (even at the inflated price), like the baseball and buffalo. I guess baseball is more popular than milestone scientific accomplishments.

As for sales, yeah, I don't expect sales to increase significantly. Probably 80% to 90% of the final mintage was sold on the first day for most options. Maybe the two 100k limit issues will sell out or get close to it by the end of the year.

Remember the two 100k options had a limit of 5, the only one with a limit of 1 was the gold

Night all. Enjoy your Apollo coins for the milestone achievement they commemorate, the profit probably won't materialize.

  16. Maybe if the actual sales numbers stay low it will increase there value in the long haul. With this mark up a long long haul.

I suspect some of the schlock the Mint has put out in recent years dampened enthusiasm for this multiple coin issue.

I wonder if the surcharges were used to buy food for the government workers without pay checks. I hope so as I've bought the puck and the proof coin.

I'm of the opinion that the 2017 Congratulations set is the sole reason your other sets have gone up in value. Since the 2017 had the "S" mint proof, the coin shows have been making a killing on all the other years. They've created this idea that a "W" minted proof is more valuable if it came in the Congratulations set vs. just ordering a single one directly from the mint. IMO, it's pure marketing and also pure nonsense. The 2017 "S" mint proof is unique and should demand a premium due to the low mintage, but all other proofs contained in those Congratulations sets shouldn't garner any premium.

I don't begrudge you if you can make money on them, but one day the market will wake up on the non-2017 Congratulation set silver eagle proofs.

Youre right it was pure nonsense.
I sold them all when the prices initially spiked and cashed out. :)

Values have been floating down since.

Nice. Glad you could make some money off the over exuberant market.
