Yeah, she likes that I keep significant gold inventory, but she couldn't care less about the dates and / or grades I stock. If she knew the premiums I pay for them she'd probably not look upon them quite so favorably.

She usually goes to the shows with my daughter and me. She hangs out with the kiddo and walks the tables while I go do my own thing.

It helps having a cute 4 year old with you. They show me the stuff they get either free or darn near free is amazing.

I basically told her to look for pretty pennies with color. She bought a set of those 54-S Lincoln’s and they seriously throw free stuff at her and my daughter. I’ve shown her quite a few AT coins and what to look out for.

She made a few bucks on her first show and that got her excited. Not too many shows near us but she did tell me there was a show 2 hours away last night lol

Pretty pennies is all ya need..... she told me about some $100 Indians, I said we’d work our way up to those lol

Wow, willing to travel 2 hours each way, no less.

I'm green with envy. Not neon green, mind you . . . just market-acceptable olive green.

well she knows my end goal is to have my own shop, so I think that helps her want to understand more about what we're doing.

She did pick me after all, so I know she's got a great eye :rolleyes:

Maybe I'll start a thread of Spouse Coin Buys... I'm sure she's not the only one out there :woot::woot:

Lol, it’s true and it works! My Wife came to a big show with me, and she was easily the most popular person there!

Mike at ToughCoins filled a big hole in my Indian gold quarter eagle set during the FUN show. This darling is graded MS63 by ICG.:woot: First ICG holder for me.

Only hole now — unsurprisingly — is the 1911-D.

I am very new to this but came across this 1986 d Lincoln unplated but now I am questioning the authenticity of it any help? I do not see mounds of copper or zinc however I do see what appears to be shades of something on the edge and rim other than grey. I have a feeling its a man made unplatting but thought i'd leave it to you great folks to help me out. The pictures are meh because I don't have the best equipment yet but here is what I have.
    Thank you,
    Shannon

Welcome to CT @shannon7282. It's best if you could post this in it's own thread. You'll get more responses.

I'm not a Lincoln cent collector, but from the pictures, it's looks like a heavily circulated cent. I'm sure others will provide you with more details.

Your welcome. This site is a great resource for Numismatics. There are collectors of all US series, World Coins and Ancients. If you have a question, just ask and you'll get answers. Just be open to them.

You might have to post a few times before you can get "New Thread" privileges. I'm not quite sure.

Yes it is a well worn copper plated zinc cent worth 1 cent.

It is completely grey except for the faint coloring on the edge and rim I have never seen a penny like that. Well learning is most valuable to me at 44th his point thank you

@shannon7282, copper plating on those Lincolns is very thin and it does not take a lot of circulation wear to remove it, leaving the dull zinc underneath.

Picked this up today at my LCS. Labeled as D/D BU. What kind of impact do a few carbon spots have on the grade?

Personally, when I see a "carbon" spots on a coin, I won't buy it. Same for fingerprints. Disclaimer, I do have one toned Morgan with a fingerprint and to this day, it drives me nuts.

As for other collectors, I can't speak for them.

Carbon spots only seem to get worse over time...I have a 36 S that the spots only surfaced after it was slabed. And it does drive me nuts as well No one will ever buy it....and over time it has gotten worse.

Mine is a fan too. She’s yet to go to a show with me though with everything going on this year I haven’t been going either She loves us colonials believe it or not. But she grew up in the antique business and loves history and design. I’ve given her a few coins a fugio cent a nova constellatio copper and a Texas commemorative as she’s from there hopefully when our son is a bit older We can do this as a family hobby/ business
