That is not a D over S mint mark. That is a Split Plating issue. 1992 Cents are copper plated zinc. They tend to split around that particular area. Read the first part of this webpage on Zinc Rot - http://www.error-ref.com/?s=Zinc+rot
If I remember correctly 1992 is the year the mint started using the CNC machine to produce dies, and no longer stamped/punched mintmarks by hand.
Whatever the problem is at the mintmark, gas bubble, split plating, pmd, whatever, there is no D over S mintmark cent
That's machine doubling and very common. You are looking for Die doubling not a doubling that happens during the striking process. http://doubleddie.com/144801.html There is a wealth of information on that website, Make it a favorite and use it for your research.
So that 1968 is definitely machine doubling? And thanks for that link, its definitely helpful even tho the machine doubling and die doubling looks very close alike.. thanks again!
Old Hoopster is really good at explaining this. But see how the doubling has taken away from the design. And not added to it. That and the flat and shelf like appearance is a sure give away.
