Can someone help me identify this? It caught my attention becasuse it has a DEEP imprint on the mint mark and that black spot looked like zinc rot, which would be impossible on a 1971 so I'm guessing the black mark is carbon or something?
The thought did occur to me, but it still leaves me wondering what is going on with the deep imprint. You see that black spot? it's dug in hard below the surface of the field. Maybe one has nothing to do with the other?
Maybe it's just the mint mark just leaving a deeper imprint since I think they still added the mint marks separately? It would explain the chipping too i guess.
