Ok, fair enough, although I think those 2014 issues were more like 200k - but your point is taken.

Yeah, we'll all feel like geniuses when they're selling for $12 on eBay in a few years...:dead::blackeye::arghh:

A poster who shall not be named recently stated that the mint is operating under a new directive to better recover their costs, so the increases may stick around.

That clad set sold over 140k I can't remember the final with a mintage limit of 200k, and the silver set had a mintage limit of like 300k with sales of at least 120k.

Here's an article from 2015 stating the silver set had hit almost 214,000 with a limit of 225,000.

No matter, it'll be interesting to see where the prices of this new series lands after the dust settles. Both Kennedy and Apollo coins.

I stand corrected, both sets sold close to 200k. So, maybe this Kennedy has more potential.

Recover their costs? They more than do that, not one tax dollar goes to operate the mint, which is why they're still open during the shut down. Profit from collectors pays for a huge part of mint operations.

Same here Jeff - I really like the modern unc commems - I just don’t understand the lack of popularity, they have low mintages, nice designs and history. Hopefully someday they will more appreciated - maybe if/when they end the program? It is a beautiful set.

Did you seriously say that you let your choice in holders dictate the contents of your collection?

Speaking of holders, I've never ordered from the mint before (I'm new here and new to coin collecting in general) and was wondering if the mint will send any of these coins in protective capsules.

Also, what size capsules would be needed for the dollars and half dollars?

They all come in capsules, and the capsules in other packaging. Too much packaging, really. lol

Thanks! That's really good to know!

I'm glad I wont have to go searching for which Airtites fit these as I had to do with some of the silver collectible coins I bought. That was a hassle. Some coins that are not the usual size and weight they don't even make capsules for them, and for others there are no direct-fit capsules (you have to use the black or white foam rings). Wish these mints would take capsules into consideration when deciding on their coin offerings! Or at the very least the mints should offer to sell the capsules separately that the mint had specially made for the coins, in case someone's original capsule gets scratched and they want to replace it or such.

I ordered a whole bunch of the Apollo coins in every offering other than the gold. I figured I would like to see them, hold them in my hand, decide what I like, what to keep and what to gift, and then return the rest.

I see they have a 7 day return policy. That's kind of a short window, but I can manage it.

Has anyone here had any experiences with returns to the US Mint - good or bad?

What kind of holders do you have? I'm asking because I was thinking of buying an album but it's so hard to figure out what will fit, what wont fit. I'm funcuzed!
