My Judd book on Patterns; the 1942 cents do not mention aluminum-silver, but he does mention aluminum by itself and aluminum-bronze mix, among several others. Other experimental mixes were made by private companies, and the mint loaned dies of a Columbian 2 centavos modified obverse , special reverse to them to produce variations for the mint to consider.
