Hey guys, I was hunting a half box today, I found a 1989 Half that reminds me of a wounded eagle, it has a line through the reverse of the coin. I also found one that has no initials of the designer but the dates don't match up, ill post pics tomorrow. But here is the coin I found! Cant find anything on it, I would love some imput. I looked at it with a loop and its deffinetly not a scratch....
Yes, a scratch on obverse. If you had a coin with an error like the “Wounded Eagle” Sacagawea Dollar, it would be raised not incused into the coin.
It can't be a scratch, it is raised, at first I was about to throw it in the discard bin but I took a closer look with my loop and it goes over the whole design on the reverse.
I know I've been mistaken a few times when I thought I had something, but its like a small string of metal that goes over the whole thing, you can tell by zooming in all the way.
The line is interrupted here.. If it were some solid object embedded into the coin it would be continuous.. Sorry but I don't think it's anything else. Unless it's a thin strip of added solder material.
Thats probably what it is, ran my finger over it a few times and it sticks out quite a bit., who knows, I'm just going to put it to the side for now.
Ever since I found that Wounded Eagle I've been paying super close attention to my coins, some turn out to be duds after I get all hyped up Hahaha.
Yes, a heavy scratch INTO the surface of the coin displaces that metal, which rises up as the 'cutter' cuts into the metal surface. There is a raised area - but it's the result of the cut-into scratch.
