1909-1916 I believe, but there have been reported some 1917 matte's. That should be your next one ambro. :D

While not generally known and not reported by the Mint a few (usually only one or two) examples of several silver and gold commemorative coins were struck in matte proof finish as late as 1938 (Arkansas half) for John Sinnock (the Mint's Chief Engraver). I guess the job came with its perks.

I would love to see that '14 in-hand. Looks very interesting, and I suspect much more attractive than the photos suggest, no?

Thanks Guys it was fun putting them up. Mattes are unique, and a bit underappreciated. In the grand scope of Lincolns.....they are the rarest of the breed with total mintage for all nine coins in the series around 17,000. All certified under the big three account for about 35% survival in MS.

The Holy Grail is the VDB, maybe 150-200 survive, most are holed away in collections. It would be nice to see a few MS63 or so vdb's come on the market. All the MPL's are blowing away the price guides.

The 1916 has the most incredible strike quality and detail of any Lincoln, the master was redone that year and you can count Lincolns beard hairs on a good coin.

I gotta hand it to my Kodak Z712IS, a great camera easy to use and wonderful for these coin shots.

    Ambro...

The Lincolns you have are outstanding to say the least! Do you actually have the coin used for your Avatar?
Confederate coins are very rare and difficult to come by...I myself, am a fan of the Civil War, Lincoln, Booth, Grant and Loyal Confederate's of the South Land!

    Nice job on the coins!!

Thanks for the kind words on Abe and his brothers. That avatar is a Bashlow restrike of the confederate cent, this is the silver one. I did do a bit of photoshop on it, and cleaned up all the rust and pitting from the century old dies. (you can do this with the virtual coin !)

Anyone but me think the Mint should start making matte proofs again? Think they'd look great...

Anyone else dreaming of a 2009-S VDB Matte Proof lol?

    Ambro,

Is there any chance of you posting pictures of both the Obverse and Reverse and noting the Die Markers (diagnostics) for the Matte Proofs you have! I know that your' coins may not have all of the Die Markers for a specific Date (i.e. for example, your' 1911 MPL which is apparently an EDS specimen as the Die Gouge extending from the rim Southeast through the "G" of GOD is not there) but you could still note them for reference. This would help out a lot of folks that might not be able to afford or locate the books needed for the Die Markers.
