Hi my first time posting. I got this at a flea market a year or so ago for a buck. After watching many threads I thought I would post this coin set and coin. The cellophane is much more yellow than what shows. Also the individual cent has some cool purple toning streaks that my pix probably don't capture. I cut this out this morning took the pictures and then put in a flip.

I guess I dont get to search through countless rolls to get the 1982 set! Thanks in advance for any observations on the grade or condition. 20190121_095908.jpg 20190121_095849.jpg 20190121_095849.jpg 20190121_095849.jpg

My newbie guess on grade and condition would be MS 65RB because of the streaking and a rim Nick and field mark above the date.

I don't grade coins. But I do see that your 1982 is a Misaligned Die Strike

So that would make it an error and a variety? I guess I dont have to post it to the error forum like most newbies.;)

Oh I forgot to mention it is copper...3.1 grams on my digital scale.

Probably grade more like ms64 (Maybe 63) and a nice example of this one. Not worth keeping to slab but if you are looking to put together a 1982 set of cents (7 regular versions) then it is good to keep. The mis-alignment is worthless on this one.

Thanks! I will be keeping this one as is. In my mind the MDS actually makes this worth less than a perfect aligned strike.

Next one to cut out is the p copper small date. Unless someone thinks I should not remove them from the plastic holder? It seems the individual cells are sealed and they have been in there a long time. The p large date may be toning over the past couple of hours since I cut it out. Could be my imagination though...

Should I put them into a 2 by 2 cardboard flip or the plastic flip after I photograph them? One last question is how do you get the coin in focus because the cloth under my cent seems to be in better focus than the coin itself...thanks again for any insights!

Here is the p small date copper from the 7 coin set. A lot rougher but still MS... 20190121_174752.jpg

This d large date copper (3.1 gm) is the worst of the 3. Looks like Abe had his carotid aertery severed.:( 20190121_192945.jpg 20190121_192830.jpg

A VERY minor error, and not a variety.

So the large date is the norm and the small date is a variety?

After reading the red book I answered my own question small date is not a variety

SPECIAL coin you have. It's a double-sided woody MAD with just a little color. I can clearly see the cartwheel spokes, they look sharp, the luster is probably strong. Also appears to have very nice fields and almost no hits. It's also VEDS.

They made billions and billions of these, they are a common issue of course. However, finding eye appealing examples like this is rare.

Please always crop your photos - you posted tiny pictures of the 82LD. BEAUTIFUL COIN!

    MS-66RB

EDIT - Rinse that coin off with acetone and put it into an airtite ASAP! Too bad it wasn't the SDC (small date copper), that's a very tough coin.

NO, technically it's an error but a very common and minor one. Most collectors don't like them unless a lot of the design elements are missing. I do admit to having saved a few but only when extreme. This one is pretty awesome for a MAD:

Small date, pretty typical example, slightly better than avg. These are VERY tough to find 67 up.

Thanks Thad! Yes the large date reverse is especially clean and there is great luster in hand. I take my photos with my phone so I need to get an app to help crop them or learn the camera app a bit better.

That phone and your light are doing a great job! Your pictures are better than most peoples that I see.

The first coin is your best by far. PCGS even has these separated for RB, compare you coin to these to get an idea of the grade:

I see a little white residue in the right obverse field. I would first treat this coin with plenty of distilled water followed by a quick rinse with (a quality) acetone. Then right into an airtite.
