Last week I was successful in winning my only bid in the Frank Robinson Auction. This coin is my first for Otho and it is going in a nice place in my Antiochene collection.

    Otho, Ruled Jan 15-Apr 16, 69 AD
    AE28, Syria, Antioch Mint
    Obverse
: CAE AVG IMP M OTHO, laureate head right.
Reverse: Large SC within laurel wreath of eight leaves, fastened at top with pellet.
    References: RPC 4318
    Size: 28mm, 14.9g

And lightning might not strike twice, but Otho's do! Last week before the FSR Auction ended, I was also able to secure another Antioch AE Otho from an Ebay seller (with provenance), and this one with the Athena/Minerva countermark that has become a sub-collection of sorts for me. So, two boxes checked with this coin! So this is my 2nd Otho and it has it's place right next to it's brother above.

Both of these big Otho's were delivered today. What a great day!

Did you bid in the recent FSR Auction? Were you successful? What'd you win? What'd you wish you won?

Cool post! And beautiful coins:wideyed:Though it's not from Frank, I have/had one of those anti-Othos given to me by my pop identified as Nero. An easy enough mistake to make looking at those of Nero from Antioch, or by Poppea's description of the 2 men;)
Once I was able to get a clear ID on it I returned it to my dad with the correction. At first he wouldn't take it back saying, "Well, do you have an Otho?" Only once I'd reassured him that I did would he take it back.
My pops, always thinking of others first.
Here's the fun fella. Though I will ask anyone who has an opinion, why is this broken? Spare change? Accident? Something I'm not thinking of???
