I read somewhere that the Ben Franklin half is worth a lot if the bell lines are solid. I believe they are in these proof sets I've got, still sealed (half, quarter, dime, nickel, penny). I'll get a scanned image of them as soon as I can...

I believe that is only for a business strike coin not a proof coin. Proof Franklins should have full bell lines. Now if that is a mint set and the Philly Franklin has fbl's that would be a nice find. I think NGC has only certified like 8 with full bell lines.

    By the way. Welcome!

Oops..Sorry about the double post. NGC has certified 34 1963 FBL.

Thanks for the welcome! Yeah, they're mint sets. Original yellowish envelopes, "1963, P. C." on the lower left corner. I don't have time to scan one right now, but I'll do that tomorrow. The coins look new, nice and shiney like they haven't seen the light of day until now.

PC is the Proof Set. That Franklin should have Full Bell Lines. The Mint set is in a white envelope and should have coins from both the Philly and Denver Mint. Good hunting!

Ah, well. So what are these proof sets worth, about? Twenty bucks? I'm looking through a collection I bought from Coinassets on eBay. They appear to have misrepresented the Morgans because they were graded by SGS and don't look MS-66 to me. But I was hoping they'd make up for it with some of the other coins they sent me. Still looking through the pennies, nothing from earlier than '12 so far there. I'm trying to upload the scans of the Morgans, but I think I need to find a better image host.

If you see a SGS probably best of avoid it. Just do a search on SGS here for discussion of them. $15-20 bucks is about right for a 63 proof set. Best of luck with your collection.

Welcome to the forum! :thumb: Proof Franklin Halves are intended to have FBL, like proof Jeffersons are supposed to have FS. They are nice coins though none the less. :D ;) Avoid SGS if you can, can find many threads about them on here. Could you post a link to the auction? I've never seen a coin graded by SGS graded under MS-69. :D Welcome again to the forum, and hope some of this has helped. :thumb:

Follow on over to my second topic, "4 Morgan Dollars" for further details and two jpegs of the coins. I'll post the auction links and the grading they gave it after some guesses have been made. It's more fun that way.

Oops. I guess I already gave it away on a previous post. So, here's the auction link.

If you had gotten a SEGS coin it may have been worth the money.
Altho not considered 'top tier' I have found them to be conservative and fairly accurate.
    Otherwise.......
Those auctions are the type to stay away from.
