    Now, there's a thought-provoking question.

    ...that we're not allowed to discuss here.

    I'd guess it's from a die that's wearing down, but I'll wait for word from those who know more than I do.

    As a die get used it is constantly having metal rub across its surface. This causes fatigue and wear, the die get worn down and worn out of useful service.
    The letters on a coin are made by hole in the die. Those holes get larger with wear, causing a fat/large letter.

    Anyone know how many DDR are known for the 1982 copper? No mint mark so it’s from philly mint

    I agree it could be that on this one but the 88 I don't know its not just the FG it's closer to the base everything he'll I been wrong would far
