I picked this up a while back and think the seller may have undergraded slightly. Do you think this would go AU? Did not pay price on the 2 by 2. Thanks In hand has a hint of luster in the ribbon on the reverse.
Thanks! I am still trying to work out the kinks on the photos. With just a phone camera right now I found that turning off the flash seems to work best. Also with the 2 by 2 shot looking better than the close up in some ways I wonder if I should not zoom in so close?
Nice coin! The primary points of focus on these are the diamonds on the hair ribbon, the feather detail, the beads on the necklace, and the letters in the word LIBERTY. Sort of in that order. As you, yourself can see, it's all there. On the reverse, it's the ribbon, the leaf detail and the lines in the shield. Again, it's all there. In my decidedly, non-expert opinion, I think it could/should go high AU, bordering on MS. If it had more visible luster, I'd call it BU. I see a very slight nick to the rim on the obverse opposite the T in STATES, and also, maybe a misaligned die in that the rim at the top looks thinner than the rim at the bottom. On the reverse, is that a scratch or a die crack running through the leaves upwards and to the rim, at about 7:30 - 8:00 ? All in all, a really nice coin.
I really have zero expertise regarding Numismatic photography, but I typically use flash unless I have direct sunlight to photograph in.
Raised metal for sure. That is a rim Nick and a slight difference in rim thickness between tthe top and bottom! You certainly nailed it!
