Nice Find for WW1 Era Silver Collection

    Just found this on eBay, the seller was in Thailand (!). I didn't realize that German States minted silver coinage as late as 1914, as I thought it all converted over to Empire by then. While it was not expensive, it is the very first and only German States silver I've seen in the date range I'm collecting, so I just had to show it off!

    nice coin, when the monarchy was abolished in 1918 he abdicated...I have been collecting coins and medals from Baden recently, lots of great history there.

    Yes, in the German Empire until 1918, the lower denominations (from 1 Pfennig to 1 Mark) were the same across the country. The other coins, silver and gold (from 2 Mark to 20 Mark), were issued by the states, and usually had one common side and one state specific side ...
