it's a pretty worn coin most likely a dig coin. I just guessed it was colonial since they used any coin available at the time
kinda looks like that one word is DOUBLE .. with a V in place of the U like several US coins have. could this be it ? I know nothing about the coin .. just did a quick search on "1643 double" and came up with this. https://www.cgbfr.com/louis-xiii-le...tb-,EA_98_114_121_95_52_51_53_52_53_56,a.html wow .. Christopher Columbus timeframe. <-- EDIT: oops, have my history wrong. LOL
As late as 1911, the Channel Island of Geurnsey was still using the double as a denomination for coins, 8 doubles was the equivalent of a British penny. Your little coin is heavy with history. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Livre_tournois
This may not matter, but there are 3 differences in the 2 coins that stand out. First, the crosses at the top between the date and DOUBLE are completely different. Second, the dots after the word double are of different sizes. Third, the date numbers seem to be of different styles. These differences may not matter at all, but then again.... Maybe different mints, or different denominations, or.... I'm not an expert or anything, I just happened to notice those differences.
Here's a French Canadian coin that looks very similar, except for an H instead of a + I would definitely say your coin is a 1643 French something. lol
