My knowledge of chop marks is limited, so a question to those here who might know: Are the marks in the field in front of Liberty chop marks? Or graffiti?

I am more interested in the marks on the date. I am curious what they are. Damage or ? Regardless it's a very cool coin

That could very well be lint or dust. I really need to buy an air bulb.

I think it's just Damage. Funny, it does sort of look like a worn chip mark.

Is there a dent/mark on the reverse?

I think it’s just some kind of ancient damage. That half saw a lot of use

Yeah, it does look like a worn chop mark. Reverse would usually have some distortion opposite the mark and I don't see any. Can you feel any sort of distortion on the reverse? Cool old coin!

I can’t check for distortion on the reverse because the coin resides in a safety deposit box in Maine and I am presently in Florida. Once back to ME it will be on the list of things to do.
