I have this 1941 Wheat Penny, and it looks like a D is where the 1 should be in 1941? Am I wrong? If so can someone tell me about this penny?

Hi Rhi and welcome to Coin Talk. Cannot really say as your pic does not enlarge enough. If you could do a clear close up of just that area it would help a lot.

coppercoins.com has 37 different DDOs listed for 1941. I looked at the short descriptions on the first page of them but saw nothing about extra bar but go to the site for 37 chances to find it...unless it is a die chip. good luck!

No.. That Cent issue has nothing at all to do with a Doubled Die. It's just damage.

the mark that is the left of the first 1 ?
or the similar type mark above the first 1 ?

The 1 on the date took a hit.. It divided in two.

It's damaged. Something struck the copper, which is soft and moved the metal.

Paddyman, I don't know how you can tell anything from THAT pic. she can see it close up so I sent her the site. she could have one on the reverse. no way to tell anything from that pic. I was just giving hope instead of shooting her down over what can't be seen like seems to be usual on here. my guess is die chip.

Yup, just trying to make the OP think a bit ... look around .. see similar things elsewhere on the coin and maybe wonder why ...

Is it possible there was a portion of a 9 was pressed were the number 1 is,and what seems like a D is a partial 9 impression/overdate?picture is not the best, but still looks like something is going on there, i can see demention that appears to be circular, but just a guess.

how would a 9 get where the 1 was?
During die maintenance they would have had to individually stamp the 9 over the 1. And I'm sure there would be some examples out there as a 9/1 941 cent. 9 Stamped over 1 as the one would have to be there first. And if you notice, the 9 is a different shape than a 1 as it has no vertical part compared to a 9. Compare the other 9 to the other 1.

So the new first "9" would have to have substantial damage to convert it to what you see now, and eliminated two numbers. And there, just googled it, are no found 9/1 941 or 9941 year cents.

Also, what's the thing above it? Another misplaced 9 with leftover from damage?

maybe the little pieces of metal are strictly from damage, and not from another, different number being there that had to have damage to make it look like it does (with another number above it getting the same amount of damage)?

    Think it through the process.
    Determine what has feasibility.

Thank y'all for your help. I did research as much as I knew how. This was my first time being interested in any coin I have had. And it was only because my daughter brought it to me. We started going through all of her coins. Thank you cascadecoin for the info. I went to the site but am not sure how to navigate it. I will keep up the research. Again I know nothing about coins, and truly am just learning so all info is greatly appreciated.

you're welcome...if you want to research more than as much as you know how just go to the home page, enter the date twice and pic Philadelphia for the mint. ask your daughter to do it, then she can learn how to find them herself. if I can do it, you can do it. if you are helping your daughter you ought to learn it... coppercoins has 'varieties' and if you do not have doubling some types of error, it will not show there. if it's a die chip, that's an error but some people do collect coins with die chips, I hear. all you have to do is enter four fields and hit enter...if you can't go that far, this may not be for you. it requires effort, like the time Coinclaws out into that reply and the answers everybody gave you. you need to do the work, like get real pics and hit the reference sites if you have a lot of pennies. best of luck to you and your daughter.
