try buying replacements, and keeping the 'evil' ones seperate :D

i dont advocate any type of cleaning, so this is all i can offer.

    good luck!

Might want to do some research on Acetone.

Depends what it actually is ! Some of these types can be cured fairly easily...others are damaged for ever....give me photos !

I think you will want to get the green off before it does any more damage. One of the few cases where cleaning is recomended.

There at a point where you clean them or just let them keep dorrouding away. I say sence its just 4 pennys. try a rubbing alcohol bath first. and see what darkens or falls off. You could try zapping them but I think you stand a good chance of finding alot of little rot wholes after there all shocked out. Again these are only 2 idea's and what it comes down to is weighing out the loss and gain. But with that said. Did you pay more them a penny for them and what are the dates? Id like to know. Because If its four commen easy to find dates then who cares. Its not like you cant find them again. What are the dates by the way?

    the dates are 44, 36 d, 51 and 41.

i found them while roll searching so they only cost me a cent each, no loss for me.

but it would give me some experience in cleaning them. im not really wanting to zap em, i would prefer to soak em in something instead. otherwise they're a write off and are getting ditched.

This question is asked all the time. There is a product, but first you need to realize that the value is already ruined, so whatever you do to the coins isn't going to make it any worse. It isn't going to make it any better either. But it will prevent further damage and that's all it will do. The coins will not suddenly turn back to a normal color, they may in fact be a weird color, the damage already done will still be visible, now and always.

Biox will take the stuff off, you can find it - HERE

I saw the photos and the dates you listed.

Spend them so we can see this question again by someone else.

I'd use a Dremel with a BRASS wire brush, then a soak in boiling Hydrogen Peroxide.

    I also recommend spending them.
Who knows who will find them and maybe become interested? :)

clembo, you must be getting tired of hearing this, but lol. :D :thumb:

Since they are pretty common, experiment a little with them. See what works best. The damage is there, and will always be there, so IMHO the best thing for them now is to clean them, that is if you don't want that stuff eating away at them forever. Best of luck. :thumb:

here they are all cleaned up. since the corrosion made them worthless i tried a few things, vinegar/salt solution, acetone, toothpaste, a toothbrush, a handbrush and finally the worst of the worst, METAL POLISH!!!!

3 of the four almost look like new, the fourth simply refused to come clean. but i got the green crud off it so that counts for something.

the pic does not do them justice, they are SHINY. except for the one. but you can see where the green crud has pitted them and ruined them.

now they're shiny and nice looking i might through them back into population. let someone find them and maybe get interested in collecting coins.
