I was thinking WOW, did I just read that post correctly. Mortgage the house for gold. I wonder how many people have been burned by doing this!

No matter how epically STUPID anything is, you WILL hear from the rare guy who got lucky. I too bought gold when low and sold it near the top, but obviously not in the volume our OP did.

You know that gold story was kinda weird. I was having lunch with a pretty wealthy guy who ran for Congressman around 1980. He told me to get all the money I could get and invest it in gold even if I had to mortgage my house. I thought about it and put all my savings and did mortgage my house to get all I could and then put it in gold. The very next year it doubled. How did he know? I have had 2 things in my life that made me a bunch of money and that was the best. The 2nd was I bought a piece of waterfront property on lake Norman if any of you guys are from NC you know where this is headed. I paid 145,000 for it and 2 years later sold it for 400,000. Now old and broke but had a lot of fun during those years. As to the 1909 S VDB, I will get it out and post a pic.

I didn't know that. My computer had been down for quite a few months. I know that he has had health issues for many years. I'm sad to hear that. I considered him a great friend. RIP, JT!

I would really love to see it as I'd never be able to afford to buy one. It would be extra special if you could post a few others as well.
