Why is the mint's the 10th anniversay platinum set less expensive than two 1/2 oz. platinum proof coins?
The current price of 1/2 oz. APE Proof is $999.99. Assuming the bullion price of Reverse Proof 1/2 oz. is also $999.99, then the total is $2,000.00. 10th. anniversary platinum set sell for $1,949.95.
those are new higher prices me thinks. when the set was first released, it was alot higger then 2 individual 1/2 oz coins
Platinum hits $1921/oz. OK, platinum has hit $1921/oz. 10th Anniversary set is selling for $1949.95. How long before they stop selling them or raise the price?
They have stopped selling it, or they are re-pricing it. I tried to purchase a set this morning, and you cannot do it on the US Mint website.
I just tried it and had no trouble putting it into my shopping cart. (I didn't buy it, though). Were you able to get that far?
You can put it in to your shopping cart, but when you go to complete checkout, it stops you, as it has 0 items for 0 dollars.
You can't buy them from the mint right now, as they have either stopped selling them altogether, or they are re-pricing them. Try to buy one, either on their website or over the phone....
I verified with the mint, that these indeed are sold out. Hope you got one, as they are worth about melt value now.
I did get one, and I'm glad I did. Interesting! You'd think the web site would indicate that they are no longer available. This had to have happened very recently, because the last statistics I saw showed them to have sold only about 16,000 sets. On the other hand, when the mint canceled the First Spouse subscription program last year, a customer service rep told me that they were sold out, so it's possible the person you spoke to got the wrong information; perhaps they are only temporarily withdrawn while they jack up the price.
I did an order earlier today and they were available and ordered. Well just checked my Email an now not Available. Didn't want to spend $2,000 dollars anyway.
Now the web site lists them as "not available". I'll bet they're not sold out, though. Probably going through a price adjustment.
I called the mint, the cust0mer service pers0n said they were'nt inf0rmed ab0ut the exact situati0n. They stated first that they were s0ld 0ut, but when i suggested that they may be halted f0r price adjustment they were'nt sure. L00ks like a price adjustment t0 me. But it has been 0ffered f0r sale since 12/13/07, s0 they may have raised the 0rder limit fr0m the 0riginal 0ne set.
