US Mint in DC

I'm here in DC is it worth stopping by the US Mint. What can be bought in the gift house that can't be bought online? I am thinking about going to the Bureau of Engraving and Printing tour, which is open or Mount Vernon.

Never been, but I heard its just a small sales counter selling stuff from their website. Everything else is closed to the public.

BEP tour and Mount Vernon are worth it but not the Mints administration building unless you want to buy.

 

You might also want to view the money collection at the Smithsonian.

What about them? Private company with no connection to the Government or the Mint that sells coins at inflated prices.

 

Is it even open with the shut down going on?

The Smithsonian museum someone mentioned above is currently closed.

I ended up on the BEP tour. It was worth it. They only take you to four spots though but it was worth the 30 mins for sure.
