I have just come back from the New York show and I have to say that I really enjoyed my time at this event. One can spend a full week just doing numismatic related activities. I went to a number of the auctions, visited the ANS, spent my time at the show and even met a few members of this community. I must say that I really do enjoy this event. My only gripe is that it is held in January. Whats wrong with May? or the fall? I did not find my hotel to be unreasonable. I spent about $1200 for flights plus 8 days at the hotel and I am basically one block north of the venue. Because the venue is right close to Grand Central Station there are plenty of different places to eat at any budget. There were at least 100 dealers at the show. Most of the name US dealers were there plus some of the Europeans. The price range was impressive ranging from $200,000 to something like $50 and there were many thousands of coins to look at. I wandered around the room and found a number of very nice coins one of which has been on my want list ever since I started collecting Greek coins. Out of the 12 coins I bought at this event I suspect that perhaps half of them will be in my top ten for 2019. I would certainly recommend this event to anyone interested in ancients medieval or early modern coins. My new Lokri Opuntii Stater

That is superb. The obverse portrait has a lot of individuality. I have an aunt whose face looks just like that. The reverse is really stunning as well. Great preservation and style. John
I'm not sure if I'm more jealous of you getting to go to the event or that dazzling coin...wait. No. Definitely the coin! Way to go! Can't wait to see some of the others (hopefully we don't have to wait until your year end list).
Congrats on the fruitful trip! And what an incredible Lokris stater that is. I keep looking from the obverse to the reverse and back and can't decide which side I like better. The head of Demeter is lovely and full of character, and the reverse has such a bold, muscular style and depth. Ajax looks like he's about ready to step right off the flan! I had the type on my want list for a few years before finally taking the leap in early 2018.

I know it’s a little early but has anyone heard where the NYINC will be held in 2020? The owner of the Grand Hyatt, where the show is supposed to be held, announced in February that the hotel and tower will be torn down and replaced with a new tower and smaller hotel. I assume that it will at least be closed by the end of the year, pending demolition.
According to http://nyinc.info/, the NYINC will be at the Grand Hyatt in 2020. Bourse activities Thursday-Sunday, January 16-19. https://www.forbes.com/sites/geoffwhitmore/2019/02/21/grand-hyatt-new-york-to-be-torn-down/ says the Grand Hyatt will stay open for guests until 2020. It will probably not close January 1st.
Looks like the NYINC will be looking for a new home again. I do hope to attend it in 2020. I had a really great time and I bought a lot of great coins.
