I received a U.S. Mint pamphlet promoting their 50th Anniversary commemorative coin program for Apollo 11. Among the various items being offered is the "Half Dollar Set", which includes a Proof Half Dollar and a Reverse Proof Kennedy Half Dollar. But the images show a One Dollar piece and the Kennedy doesn't look like a reverse proof. The U.S. Mint marketing department should slow down a bit... Hahahaha.
With this particular design, I think one should get the proof coin, simply because the shadows of the flag and astronaut would then look quite stunning. I like how the coin itself is curved.
I don't know... For $225 (and that's the promo price), perhaps the effects of the coin will be more dramatic in the larger size?
I never considered a five ounce coin before this one and I do intend on getting one if they are still available by the time I figure out how to get it done.
If you go online (or call in starting at noon, ET) on 1/24, I think you should be able to get one with no problem.
That was the plan. As it turns out I have to drop off a business visitor at the airport next Thursday at noon. As long as I been awaiting this release, that turn of events took place the same day the mint posted the info.... Anyway, my dealer says he is going to jump on at noon and place my order for me..... I feel like I am last in line for Beatles tickets or something..... LOl
I predict January 24th to be a very expensive day... thankfully the little restraint I have keeps me away from the gold.
