I recently started a thread here at CT in an effort to obtain some information regarding this medal. So far no luck. In fact there is so little information available that I'm having trouble determining its value. So guys, what's it worth? I found this website/info link: http://www.omsa.org/military-maria-theresia-order-commemoration-medals-part-ii/
Thank you for your feedback. Yes, an official at the OMSA (Peter Lomdahl) got me in touch with a Richard Lussier. Interestingly enough, much is not known about this medal. Since I have it in hand he asked what was written at the 6 0'clock position. Apparently since no one has one in hand there isn't one to read/verify the inscription. I also noticed very faint writing in center of the shield which isn't in any known description.
On a side note: this medal was given to me by my grandfather, who got it from his dad. His father died early and my pop didn't know the story behind it. I only say this because my great-great-grandfather came to US from Bavaria in the early 1860's and was quickly enlisted in the Union army. Nothing is known from his life in Bavaria. I wonder how he got this? Very intriguing...
The results are in. I got in touch with Richard Lussier with the Austrian division of the OMSA. These medals are somewhat rare, and one similar to it (same order) recently sold for $2500. Not a bad find...
