Half Dollar Box Hunt, No Silver :( But a very interesting error half)

And I only comment because I have been 'actively' (meaning deliberately going to the banks to buy rolls) for 12 years now. I had been inactively searching (meaning always checking my change) for about 7 years before that, after a hiatus from inactively searching for about 2-3 years in the 1980s. I was an occasional 'looker' in the 60s and 70s and my big score (nah, not big) was seeing and asking for a 1918 cent from a tellers desk in about 1969/1970.

I have learned a lot in the past 10 of these years and know well the excitement a newbie error collector has when they think they've found something. But almost always, it is not. And only time and paying attention to people here will cure you of this newbie ailment.

Happy hunting, I suggest you study up on the mint process; it'll help you learn what an error is and what isn't. There are also specific half dollars you should be looking for. Here's a link to help: https://www.ngccoin.com/variety-plus/

I'll have to get back to you on a good minting process link.

Look up "dryer coins" and you'll see many that resemble your half. PMD

    John Skelton Morgan man!

All you need to do is a search on YouTube. They have several videos showing the actual machines used and the step-by-step process.

Thanks, and I’m sure there are some decent ones out there, but I personally prefer text and photos (not all do, I know). If you hadn’t noticed the trend of people only using YouTube, there are a lot of videos out there giving game bad info. This website is half decent for the minting process.

I look forward to hopefully seeing something you find silver 40% or 90%.... even a pic of an oddball coin that looks interesting even if it's not an error.

That is a dryer coin Stephen. And while Couch is cool he's got nothing on the probably over 1,000 years of combined coin experience on this website. Keep up the hunt and post your finds for us to see.

That is so crazy to hear! :rage:

See I have a short temper. If someone said that to me I would do this..
"Hold on.. let me see that coin of yours again" Then I would take it, throw it as far across the coin show as possible and say "Now go and find it you loser!" :hilarious:

In that case, I'd hope you can throw further than your temper. LOL

Nice Pocket Piece. Put it in your pocket and let it continue its journey. Its PMD. I didnt bother to read the entire thread, but I am sure that this has been mentioned. Its pretty obvious after you have been collecting Error Variety coins for close to 50 years.
