Over date! 1892/82 Spain 50 cent. I think. Found this in the bargain bin at lcs today. Its a rare bird as far as i can tell. I know there is a 92/89 as well. I believe I've attributed correctly. please chime in. What cha think?
I agree the bulge connecting the post of the 2 to the prominent arch is a die chip. Looks like 82 to me.
Seems I've missed a few postings. Sorry, I've been traveling and now working on my masters thesis. I'll try to get those coins out to those who sent me info this week. I just picked up a new coin that cost me $13 after bargaining and a $10 rebate from Paypal. I'm quite certain it's an overstrike and I think it's an overstrike of another country, but I need to dig a little. Feel free to chime in if you know or have an inkling. Seller's photos:
Found it! It's overstruck on a 1718 Daler, emergency money in Sweden. https://www.allnumis.com/coins-cata...f-sweden-1697-1718/1-daler-1718-mercury-12717 Here's what Numista has to say on it: NOTE: This one and the other Daler SM coins minted during 1715-1719 were emergency coins struck during a period of hard economic crisis. Even if they bear the value of a daler they were strongly underweight (a daler in copper would have to weigh about 756 grams) that's why their minting ceased in 1719. However these emergency coins were used for a long time, before with value of 1 öre KM, and then of 1/12 skilling. That tells me that the year of my coin is 1719 and it seems that it is rather common for the 1719 to be overstruck on the 1718. My wife's family migrated from Malta shortly after the end of WW2. Her Grandfather had a bag of foreign coins when he came over, once here, he started saving US coins. When he passed, my wife inherited his collection. There are several hundred foreign coins from all over the Europe and India, as well over 150 Morgan and Peace Us dollars. Going through the foreign coins the other day, I came across this 1938 German Mark coin the seems to have doubled lettering on both sides of the coin. It may just be MD but it was interesting to find.
Very cool back story. I would love to see the Morgan’s and other world coins. Please tag me if you post them on another thread. It’s hard to tell with your photos. I think I see a split serif or two, but my gut says machine doubling. Can you get slightly stronger lighting and also post the photos as full images?
1997 10 Centavos, Brasil/BrazilL DDR, I like the doubling on centavos sellers pics... the grade is not that great, but I wanted it anyway. There is also the die clash on the date on the "Head" side above the head to the left.
I like it. I have been searching every Brazilian coin i come across. Some great doubled dies coming from there in recent years. What is the die orientation suppose to be? Medal or coin alignment
I do not have this particular coin in my hand yet, but my other Brasil doubled die coins have coin alignment orientation.
Hi @spirityoda. How much you paid for this coin? I ask because i have ten like that. I know that the 10 centavos with this error are scarce, but would be happy to send one for you as a gift. And yes, the alignment is coin, not medal, for all coins of the First and second Family of Real.
$19.98 with free shipping. Bought off Ebay and they have others on Ebay that are higher grade for a higher price.
