Sure, its a cleaned ex-jewelry piece, but it only cost me $20. Struck by the US Mint in San Fransisco, this coin, struck in 1883, bears the portrait of King Kalakaua of Hawaii. Same size as a dime of the United States.

If only! I actually got it at Hallenbeck's in Colorado Springs.

Coincidentally, I have a friend who goes to Hawaii Univ. I'm so jealous of him - I'm stuck enjoying the infrequent sunshine of northeast Ohio!

I forgot to say. Would is even be worth sending these to be slabbed?

Years ago I picked up the dime and quarter - never sprung for the half. Wish I did. I think I was paying 10 or 15 $ for the coins back then.

Unless they are a high grade. Or if you have the dollar coin. Even if it's cleaned, it's worth it to get it slabbed.

Nice dime, but it was struck in San Francisco not Philadelphia.

My bad... the PROOFS were struck in Philadelphia. Fixed :)

I can't really tell from the pics of the original poster, but if those are solder 'blobs' on the coin, most of it could be removed with solder wick and a soldering iron. If it's already damaged...why not. Might make it look even better. Just a thought.
