Please help me grade these. They aren't the best pics, but I am just getting started at this. I'll get better...I promise. 1938 D 1938 D I saw coins VERY similiar to these on a site that is in Houston. The prices were unbelievable!! Their web address is www.buyuscoins.com The date and mint mark on the Jefferson nickle are the same. On the buffalo nickle, the date is different, but mine is a lower mintage and the coin looks awesome. Beautiful toning and colorations on both coins!
Welcome to Coin Talk! I am sure that many people here would be very happy to help you with your grading questions, but we would have to see better(close up) pics. We would also need to see the reverse of the coins. They look nice, but from that far away it is hard to tell if they are mint state(MS) or about uncirculated(AU). The Macro setting on your camera would allow you to get up closer to your coins.
Those nickels look very nice and folks here will be glad to help you with the grades but the pics need to be larger. Lou
assuming they are as uncirculated as they look from the pictures I'd say the the jeff is an ms-63 and the buff is a beautiful lustery coin and should go at least ms-64
If I'm understanding you correctly, the items you posted aren't even the ones you're considering buying. If that is the case, these images won't do us any practical good in trying to provide help to you. Also, any time you see "unbelievable" prices, it should be cause for extreme caution and skepticism. Chances are far better that such coins end up being bad buys/deals than good ones. Save your money until you know a lot more about what you're looking at and doing.
That is correct. I own these coins. The extreme prices I saw were on the site I listed on a post earlier. I would like to know what my coins would be graded. Thanks!
The large image of the obverse of the Jefferson nickel looks like an MS66 to me, but I didn't see a large reverse image. I don't think there is any way to provide a meaningful guess on the Buffalo based on those small images.
There are three extra links on the page. Make sure you click on those. Two on top of the Jefferson and one under it. Thanks!!!
Thanks - I'd guess MS65 or MS66 on the Jefferson and MS65 on the Buffalo (due to the lighter/discolored area on the Indian's cheek).
Man, gorgeous coins, and great pics from the second time around! Very nice. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: Phoenix
Thansk for the compliments. I have had these coins so long...like back from my High Schhool days that I can't remember where they came from! I have 5 each of the Jeffersons (38 D, 38 S and 39 D's) all in this same condition. Only problem is that on one or two of the other coins I noticed some kind of crud. Very tiny, but it appears to be growing! I need to post a photo of that to find out what I should do about it. Yea, the Indians's cheek is a bit of a problem. Sad to say. The reverse of that coin is absolutely pristine and gorgeous! As you know, I am new to this site and have found it a bit frustrating in that I can't access it often. It's like they deny me access during busy times of the day. Thanks for your input and help!
1938 D Buffalo I tried this a few minutes ago...guess it got lost. Hope this isn't a duplicate. Anyway, your best advice as to this coins value will be appreciated! I was advised it would be a MS 65. Do you agree? Thanks!
I almost forgot! I almost forgot to give a brief description of the coin. The coin has beautiful golden bronze toning on both sides. The reverse of the coin as you can see is pristine! Absolutely beautiful and flawless! The obverse has some lighter area on the Indian's cheek. Overall a beautiful coin.
1938 D Jefferson OK. How about this one. What do you think? I have been advised by others on this board that it would grade at a MS 66. The coin has gorgeous toning pattern that features rainbow colors. The luster qualities are excellent as well contributing to the overall outstanding eye appeal. Very nicely preserved! I will be eager to hear what value you place on it. Thank you for your consideration!
